GSP not interested in McGregor fight?

When Georges St. Pierre returns to the UFC to face Michael Bisping, it will be his first fight in nearly four years. It’s still a few weeks away, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating on his next fight. The popular rumor is that he will face Conor McGregor, but according to GSP, Mystic Mac isn’t even on his radar. GSP stated that he doesn’t make a habit of calling out smaller fighters, but he did call McGregor an “amazing fighter” and that it would be an honor to face him. It’s a little early to speculate, because GSP has stated that he will retire with a loss to Bisping, still though it’s an interesting idea.

Ian McCall granted UFC release

Ian McCall has had a tumultuous run in the UFC. He was arguably screwed out of a potential victory in his first fight with Demetrious Johnson, and things have only gone downhill since then. After being forced to pull out of five straight fights for various reasons, and even hinting that his fighting career may be over, it appears as though McCall’s UFC run has come to an end. He announced today that he asked for, and was granted his release. It seems to be a money issue as McCall stated that he won’t fight for anything less than $100,000, though he did state that a 50/50 contract would be acceptable.

Cole’s Analysis: My suspicion is that if McCall does fight again it will likely be overseas, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all if this is the end of his career. He is an interesting guy, and can probably find success elsewhere.

Gokhan Saki set to return

Fresh off an impressive KO victory in his UFC debut, Gokhan Saki has already been booked. He is set to return to action against Khalil Rountree at UFC 219.

Goodbye Bud, hello Modelo!

Budweiser is out as the official beer of the UFC, and Modelo will be taking its place. Apparently, the reasoning is that the UFC is hoping to appeal more to the Hispanic market, and they see this as a step in the right direction.

Cole’s Analysis: Nearly every article I read about this mentions Donald Cerrone in some way, so I will as well…hopefully Cowboy can find peace in knowing that his favorite beer is no longer in bed with the UFC.
