Ronda Rousey accepts polarizing nature of her star power: “People either hate my guts or they really, really like me”

“The acceptance of criticism is part of who I am. Like I’m not a lukewarm person. I’m very polar where people either hate my guts or they really, really like me. I’m fine with that and letting the world know that I’m OK with that. I try to show as many of the imperfections and flaws as I can. I go out and walk around and I’m not wearing makeup or anything. I like how my face looks. I’m not trying to make it look perfect all the time. I’m just trying to be myself all the time. I think that’s realistic and people don’t see that too often… I don’t really understand what everybody expects from me or what their idea for perfect for me would be. I feel like a lot of women are under the pressure of making everyone happy with them all the time, that it’s good to have examples out there where it’s like not everybody’s going to like you, but life will go on, you’ll be OK and you can still love yourself.”

-Ronda Rousey expands on her thoughts about perfection in a behind the scenes interview about her new Reebok spot (transcribed by FoxSports.com).

Penick’s Analysis: Rousey’s in a very different spot than she was this time last year, and it’s good to see an evolution in her thinking. Now, some of that is out of necessity, as the previous hubris in her role as the best women’s fighter in some ways led to that Holly Holm loss. Learning from that is important if she’s going to come back and have success again. She’s clearly now setting up for a return. In what form that takes is still anyone’s guess, and it’s impossible to know whether she’s going to be back for just one fight or if she’s coming back to for a longer stay. The first one is what she needs to get out of the way, and then we’ll get a better idea of her mindset from there.

  1. I am confident rowdy ronda rousey will be back around january of next year, i see 3 possible opponents for her: amanda nunes, julianna pena and holly holm. The rematch against holm would make the most sense, she is the one who delivered the only blemish on the rowdy one’s record. I also see a 3rd fight between rowdy and cupcake, other good matchups would be rowdy vs lioness and rowdy vs cyborg but that fight would be at a catchweight of 140 pounds and would be a superfight. I expect the rowdy one to have at least 3 more fights before retirement. The preacher’s daughter will pay for the emotional pain that she has caused to the rowdy one. I believe in rowdy and i also believe in revenge and redemption, it is what it is and those that have exiled her will owe her an engraved apology. I can only imagine the ass beaten that awaits the preacher’s daughter and cupcake. Ass beaten’s are closer then they appear and it is time for cupcake and cyborg to shut the fuck up.
