Fabricio Werdum to Stipe Miocic: I’ll fight you after my recovery, I think you are a great fire fighter

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Fabricio Werdum won’t be fighting Stipe Miocic at UFC 196 any longer, but he said on Tuesday that he’ll be happy to take that bout after he recovers. On top of that, he took a minor dig at the potential challenger for his Heavyweight Championship.

Werdum pulled out of UFC 196 this week due to injury just a day after Miocic was placed in that fight as an injury replacement for Cain Velasquez. The UFC has not yet made any formal announcement regarding changes to the event, which is slated to air live on pay-per-view from Las Vegas on Feb. 6.

Penick’s Analysis: Werdum’s taking a shot at Miocic’s day job (and it’s telling that one of the top contenders still needs to work a day job), but it’s still a fight that can work for both of them and the UFC when Werdum is healed up. It certainly makes more sense than once again booking the Werdum-Velasquez rematch that was unnecessary to begin with, especially given how many delays that fight has wrought over the last two years.

  1. As a fire fighter myself it is sad that a top ufc fighter has to risk his life everyday putting on your bunker gear to fight fires when you should be getting paid at least 500,000 k a fight and not worry about going to a fire or a horrible accident hope you get what’s due
