In 2007, Takanori Gomi was defeated by Nick Diaz in a fantastic fight in Pride that was overturned due to Diaz testing positive for marijuana. Fast forward four and a half years, and Gomi was once again submitted by a Diaz, Nick's younger brother Nate, at UFC 135 in Denver, Colo.
Diaz put together one of the more complete and impressive fights of his career, out-classing a faded Gomi on the feet and hurting him on numerous occasions before the fight hit the ground.
Once it did, Diaz threatened with a triangle choke that was nearly locked in tight, only to see him transition to an armbar that ended the fight quickly, forcing Gomi to tap with 33 seconds remaining in the first round.
Diaz returned to the lightweight division after consecutive losses at welterweight, and brought himself to an even 3-3 over his last six fights. Gomi has now last three of four appearances in the Octagon, with all three losses coming by submission.
