The UFC has announced an exciting bantamweight bout for UFC 133 this summer, as Michael McDonald and Nick Pace will square off at the event in August.
McDonald is coming off an exciting back and forth bout with Edwin Figueroa in his UFC debut last month at UFC Fight Night 24. The decision win was McDonald's 12th career victory, and fifth straight. It also earned him "Fight of the Night" honors and the bonus that comes along with that.
This fight was actually initially supposed to take place on that card, but an injury to pace caused him to pull out of the fight and Figueroa took his place. Pace was defeated by bantamweight buzz-saw Demetrious Johnson in his debut in Zuffa in the WEC last year, but he successfully made his UFC debut at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale in December with a sweet submission over Will Campuzano. However, Pace failed to make weight for the fight, keeping him out of the running for the night's "Submission of the Night" award.
No date or location has been officially set for UFC 133, though it has been reported that it's being targeted for Philadelphia in August. One other bout has been announced for the card in Jorge Rivera vs. Alessio Sakara.
Penick's Analysis: This was a good fight for last month's event and it remains a good fight for this event. Provided both stay healthy heading in it should be an exciting bantamweight matchup and will give both a chance to build more momentum off the impressions each made in their respective Octagon debuts.
