A number of fighters have gotten their walking papers from the UFC following recent losses, as several published reports state that Chris Camozzi, Rob Kimmons, Dave Branch and Todd Brown have all been released from their UFC contracts.
Camozzi was released following a loss to Kyle Noke by submission at UFC 127 in Australia, and though it was only his first loss in three fights in the organization, the UFC cut him. Camozzi wrote about the release on his official website.
"According to the UFC the issue is less about my performance (they offered to give me a recommendation) and more to do with an overloaded roster and not enough fights for us under contract," Camozzi wrote. "This has nothing to do with the recent merger... Right now I will move on and look to keep improving my skills and search for a new organization to call 'home.' Wherever that may be, I will always bring the best fights I can and have in the past. I'd like to thank all the fans for their continued support. You all make this sport worthwhile."
Kimmons was finished by Dong Yi Yang at UFC on Versus 3 earlier this month, and with it being his third loss in four fights and bringing his record in the UFC to 3-4, the cut came down. Kimmons' tenure with the organization lasted almost three years, but the longtime veteran will now need to work his way back.
Branch went 2-2 in four fights in the UFC, bookending two decision wins with stoppage losses. After a debut slam knockout loss to Gerald Harris, Branch defeated Tomasz Drwal and Rich Attonito in consecutive fights. However, a submission loss to Rousimar Palhares at UFC on Versus 3 has led to his release.
Brown made two appearances in the Octagon, but lost to both Tim Boetsch and Igor Pokrajac. The most recent loss also took place at UFC on Versus 3, and he'll need to climb back up the ladder with a couple of wins to get a call back.
