Mac Danzig has gotten himself a fight by calling someone out, as the UFC today announced that he'll meet Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone at UFC 131 in Vancouver.
Danzig took to Twitter to call Cerrone out after Cerrone got a bout with Paul Kelly at UFC 126 in February. Said Danzig at the time, "So all you have to do to secure a fight you haven't earned is wear a silly hat, call yourself 'Cowboy' and talk trash?"
He'll now get that fight, and the season six winner of The Ultimate Fighter will attempt to continue on with the momentum gained from a knockout win over Joe Stevenson in December. The win was only Danzig's second in his last six fights, but was his second over the last three after successfully halting a three fight losing streak.
Cerrone, on the other hand, has been hot, winning three straight fights after his second loss to Benson Henderson last April. After an extremely impressive win over Jamie Varner in their rematch last September, Cerrone ended his tenure in the WEC with a submission win over Chris Horodecki, and then successfully entered the UFC with a win over Kelly on the UFC 126 card.
UFC 131 takes place from the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on June 11, headlined by the heavyweight number one contender's bout between Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos.
Penick's Analysis: This is another great fight in the UFC's lightweight division. Cerrone, coming over from the WEC, still needs to prove himself in this stacked division, and despite Danzig's recent losses, he's an Ultimate Fighter winner and a very dangerous opponent, and he's a name well known in the UFC. This is a big chance for both fighters to get a win over a recognizable name, and it should prove to be another exciting lightweight fight.
