Despite a loss to to Nate Marquardt in his last fight, Rousimar Palhares has been signed to a new four fight contract with the UFC, according to a report from Tatame.com over the weekend.
With the new deal, Palhares' head trainer at Brazilian Top Team, Murilo Bustamante, says Palhares wants another shot at Nate "The Great."
"He's very motivated, he know that he let the victory escape, he made a mistake, but these things happen in life, but he's crazy to fight Nate again," Bustamante said. "He wants this fight pretty bad and he’s training for it. Rousimar is conditioned and training every day as if he had a fight schedules. Our expectations are the best possible ones and I'm sure that Toquinho and these new guys from BTT will bring the Brazilians many reasons to be happy."
Penick's Analysis: Palhares made an error in judgment in the middle of that fight with Marquardt, as you can't stop paying attention even for a split second to what's going on in a fight like that. He wasn't going to be cut after that loss, so the new contract is no surprise. I wouldn't be opposed to a rematch if that's what the UFC wanted to do, and with Marquardt coming off the loss to Yushin Okami they could put that fight together, so long as it's not a main event.
