The following are key excerpts from Chris Leben at the UFC 116 post-fight press conference. He discussed his victory over Yoshihiro Akiyama as well as wanting to fight Wanderlei Silva next.
- I try not to watch the previous fights during the event because I get way too pumped up and I am likely to make a lot of errors in the process. So I try to sit in the back and work on game plans.
- I am overwhelmed with all the things going on in my career. I cannot think my team and support group enough for everything.
- Akiyama has some amazing judo and he is one of the best takedown guys I have ever fought. I thought I was prepared for his judo, but I under estimated him.
- I am glad that so many people supported me. I was a huge underdog in both of these last two fights and I am glad that I pulled it off. Two wins in two weeks is a great thing that has never been done before [in the modern era of the UFC].
- I think I should fight Wanderlei Silva next since I beat his opponent. Put us on [The Ultimate Fighter] and battle it out there and then put us in the cage and battle it out there too.
