The UFC's hour long preliminary card broadcast for UFC 111 on Spike TV brought in 1.2 million viewers on Saturday night, the lowest to date for a preliminary card broadcast before a pay-per-view.
The broadcast featured three fights during the hour long timeslot, including Nate Diaz's KO over Rory Markham, Ricardo Almeida submission of Matt Brown and Rousimar Palhares controversial submission over Tomasz Drwal.
The event drew a 1.2 in men 18-49, and a .9 household rating. The number represented a significant decrease from the last set of prelims aired on Spike, with UFC 109 bringing in 1.9 million viewers.
Penick's Analysis: They were going head to head with one of the games from the Elite 8 in the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament on CBS, so a dip in numbers was expected, but with the first major pay-per-view of the year after a series of injury riddled cards it could have been higher. The number isn't terrible, and it's only slightly less than the UFC 106 prelim broadcast, but it's a negative downtrend after such a high number last month. The pay-per-view probably did just fine, but if this number is an indication of the buyrate then it won't be up to expectations.
