"I was wanting to get in there a lot sooner. I was trying for September, and I even did a little mini-camp because I thought they were going to get me a fight at the end of September. But then it was maybe October or November, and here we are, fighting in December... I don't want a break. I want to get more active. It just feels like I'm knocking on the door and trying to pick the right fights and fight the right guys and it's how it worked out for me... I'm a realist. There's no guarantee [of a title shot]. I've got to make sure I put on the best performance that I can and kind of make it so they have no choice. But I thought I've done that in the past and I still didn't get what I wanted. So I'm keeping my mind open, but hoping for the best."
-TUF 22 Finale headliner Frankie Edgar talks to UFC.com about his efforts to get back to a title fight and why he's hoping to keep himself active.
Penick's Analysis: Edgar getting passed over for the Conor McGregor fight on late notice this summer was a setback, but he continues to keep a solid attitude about everything as he tries to make his way back into contention. Though Conor McGregor's vowing to move up to lightweight with a win over Jose Aldo, a McGregor-Edgar fight could be significant. On top of that, if Aldo wins, a rematch between Edgar and Aldo could be fantastic. The first came on shorter notice than Edgar would have probably liked, and in his first cut to featherweight. He's better than he was in that fight, and if he proves that with a win over Chad Mendes next week, an Edgar-Aldo rematch should come in 2016.
