Ronda Rousey has landed yet another film role, and this time she'll be stepping into a role previously made famous by the late Patrick Swayze.
According to a report from Variety.com, Rousey will star in MGM's planned remake of the 1989 action film "Road House." The film has been in the works for some time at the studio, and will move ahead with a different take.
The original starred Swayze as a "cooler" brought in to bounce at The Double Deuce, a wild, "rowdy" roadside bar. Per the Variety report, Rousey sought the blessing of Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, before accepting the part.
Rousey also posted a comment to Twitter about taking the role, promising to make the film a tribute to Swayze and his family.
Penick's Analysis: Given Road House's cult classic status, I'm curious to see what the reaction to the remake will be. It's the second 80s remake in the works with an MMA presence, given Georges St-Pierre's upcoming part in the "Kickboxer" remake as well. Rousey's continuing to make waves in the film world, and in conjunction with her looking to stop fighting within the next couple of years, her exit may be accelerated.
