Cathal Pendred tried to take a shot at CM Punk on Twitter on Tuesday, and got pretty much shut down in the ensuing exchange.
It began with a quick clip of Punk getting interviewed for Fox Sports 1 with some clips of his sparring and ground work ahead of his impending UFC debut, and Pendred taking a shot at how Punk looked.
Punk took exception, and not only returned fire at Pendred's suspect and oft-maligned UFC run, but the simple ridiculousness of Pendred trying to call him out to begin with.
Ali wasn't a boring twat. Sweet emojis. Focus more on you, maybe you'll win a fight without a gift from the judges. https://t.co/kP7QgPHK0n
Penick's Analysis: Someone in Pendred's position trying to call out someone who has never had a fight is laughable and, yeah, a little cowardly. It's not a fight that any commission would sanction to begin with, but even without that, Pendred looks bad trying to stir things up with anyone in that spot. A win over Punk would do absolutely nothing for Pendred's career, because someone with 17 fights in the UFC should beat a fighter who hasn't ever been in the cage. Punk's not trying to come in to say he's better than those on the roster with tons of experience, and Pendred trying to act like the "tough guy" against the self-admitted "easy target" reflects poorly on him.
UPDATE: Punk added the following shot which, while a definite blow at Pendred, is also a pretty damning statement regarding his current employer:
.@Pendred Make fun of my age, my skill, where I come from, but realize I've made more money on my per diems alone than you have in the @ufc
