In what could be devastating news, Brazilian MMA reporter Ana Hissa passed along on Twitter that UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo suffered a fractured rib during sparring on Tuesday in Brazil.
Aldo injured during sparring session, exams confirm fractured rib
What that means for his fight with Conor McGregor at UFC 189 is unknown, but the bout is certainly in jeopardy with an injury of this nature.
Penick's Analysis: This would be an absolutely terrible blow to the UFC if Aldo is forced out of this fight. There's been so much money poured into the promotion of this fight, there is so much anticipation for the bout against McGregor, and we're just weeks away from the fight itself. If he's forced out now, that $7 million gate may be brought down as some look for refunds; at the same time, so many have spent tons of money on flights and hotels for the week as well. This is just a very bad situation all around, and though there's a slight possibility he tries to fight on, I don't know how he gets cleared with a fractured rib.
