"Jon is going to make the best of it. He's doing all the right things. He was in the gym helping Andrei Arlovski for his fight. He's in the gym helping others right now. He's gone back to help others, stopped doing those things that get you in trouble and go forward. I'm looking forward to Jon turning his life around and becoming a better person. Is he fighting again or not? I'm not sure. That's not important. What is important right now is that Jon takes care of himself and his family... Oh yeah [there's a real possibility he may not fight again]. To us, the most important thing is Jon Jones. Everybody seems to forget other things but at the end of the day it's for Jon Jones to become the best person he can. The fighter is secondary. We lose sight of it. There's a possibility that he might not fight. There's a possibility that he might fight. I know right now he's staying busy helping others in the gym. That's very important. Jon's just coming into the gym, doing his job. He's just focused on helping others. That's all I can say, all I will say. That's the important part about it. I can't dig into his emotions or tell you anything about him personally, but he's there to help others which is very very important to us."
-Jon Jones' striking coach Mike Winkeljohn talks to Submission Radio and gives an update on what the embattled Jones has been up to in their gym since getting indefinitely suspended and stripped of the title.
Penick's Analysis: On the positive side for Jones, he's keeping himself busy in the gym and hopefully he's making smarter decisions outside of it. I really have a hard time believing we won't see him get back into the cage, and indeed I'd expect that to happen once the legalities are sorted out on his hit and run. For now, he's staying under the radar publicly, but still doing his part as a teammate and top competitor for Jackson-Winkeljohn, and there's something to be said for that. For now, he's going to have to face the consequences of his actions before he can move forward, but keeping his head down and getting to work in the gym seems like a responsible thing for him to be doing at this stage.
