Heavyweight fighter Alistair Overeem this week gave his thoughts on the upcoming Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship bout between Fabricio Werdum and Mark Hunt.
Overeem has faced both men in his career, and while he believes Werdum has the edge, he gave Hunt quite a compliment into the matchup at UFC 180.
"You know, at the heavyweight division it can go either way," Overeem said in an interview with Submission Radio. "Hunt is an exceptional fighter, but Fabricio has been showing great skill in his last several fights. It can go either way. That being said, I give Fabricio a slight advantage, but Hunt, Hunt is no easy [fight]. I fought him back in 2008. He's the strongest guy I've ever fought. You know if you get hit [by Mark], you've got a problem. So it's going to be an exciting match up and I'm actually excited for that fight in a couple of weeks."
Penick's Analysis: Hunt's power is always an x-factor, because he's capable of ending just about any fight with the right punch. Werdum's much more well rounded, and should have the edge in most areas, but if he gets caught, he gets caught. That's the set up for UFC 180. Werdum should prevail, but there's every possibility he winds up taking the wrong shot at the wrong time and loses that fight.
