...OH, ONE MORE THING - PLEASE BOOKMARK US & VISIT DAILY!
By: Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief James Irvin was scheduled to make his return to competition next month following a nine month suspension for a positive test for painkillers out of his loss to Anderson Silva last July. Now, according to a report from MMAWeekly.com, Irvin's bout with Drew McFedries at UFC 98 is off as Irvin has suffered a knee injury in training.
More specifically, the report stated he's come up with a torn meniscus and will be out an additional five weeks. No replacement has been named for McFedries as of yet.
UFC 98 comes live on pay-per-view May 23rd from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. The card is headlined by the Light Heavyweight Title bout between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida, and also features the long awaited welterweight clash between Matt Hughes and Matt Serra.
Penick's Analysis: I was definitely looking forward to seeing how Irvin responded from the long layoff, so it's a bit unfortunate that we'll have to wait a bit longer. Fortunately for him the additional time needed makes it seem less serious than an injury of this nature very well could be. Hopefully that's the case and it's not worse than is being let on at the moment.
DON'T GO YET... WE SUGGEST THESE MMATORCH ARTICLES, TOO!
