Two heavyweights on the mend from hand injuries could be on a collision course for a UFC bout later this year, as a report from UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1 on Wednesday says the UFC is targeting a bout between Roy Nelson and Mark Hunt.
Hunt went to a five round draw with Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in December, breaking his hand in the process, while Nelson broke his own hand in a knockout win over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira earlier this month in Abu Dhabi.
Nelson is going to be undergoing surgery to fix his injury, and if he heals up in time, the UFC reportedly wants to book the bout with Hunt in Japan this September.
Penick's Analysis: Nelson-Hunt on UFC Fight Pass in Japan would make for a hell of a fight. Ok, it's a hell of a fight anywhere, but given Hunt's time spent in Japan it would be a sensible fight there especially. It's now on whether Nelson will be healed up in time, but he's a very legitimate opponent for Hunt right now.
