The UFC really did their best to put together an excellent card for next week's UFC on Fox 9 event in Sacramento, but injuries have ravaged it left and right. The event still has a bunch of exciting fights, but they've lost yet another big one just a week out.
Matt Brown has suffered an injury this week, forcing him to drop out of his welterweight matchup against Carlos Condit.
News of Brown's injury surfaced on Friday night from @FrontRowBrian on Twitter, while BleacherReport.com reported on Saturday that Brown officially opted to withdraw from the fight on Saturday.
It's unlikely the UFC finds a replacement to fight Condit next Saturday, and more than likely he'll be removed from the card himself.
Penick's Analysis: This is just crappy news. That was one of the big, intriguing fights next weekend, and even though there are still several really interesting and exciting fights coming to the card, there's no question it's taken a hit. This is highly unfortunate for Brown as well, as this was a matchup giving him an opportunity to secure a spot as a top contender. If he's not out too long, the fight could be rescheduled, but it's a bummer for both as Condit has been prepping for this date as well and tailoring his training around that date.
UPDATE: Brown has revealed what forced him out, giving an update on Twitter.
Thanks for the support guys. I regret to inform all that I am out of the fight with Condit. I herniated 2 discs in my lower back this week.
