The injury bug has already shaken up the UFC on Fox 8 card considerably this week, and now the following event is getting hit once again. The UFC 163 pay-per-view in Brazil already lost one major fight when Anthony Pettis was taken out last month, and now another of the pay-per-view card bouts is off as well.
The UFC's Brazilian Twitter account announced Friday morning that Josh Koscheck has suffered an injury, taking him out of a fight with Demian Maia on the card. Additionally, with little time to find a high level opponent for Maia, he's been removed from the card entirely, and the event will feature 12 fights.
The booking had been an odd one to begin with, as Koscheck had lost two straight and three of his last five fights, including a TKO to Robbie Lawler in his most recent outing in February. Meanwhile, Maia's gone undefeated as a welterweight, most recently defeating Koscheck's friend and longtime training partner Jon Fitch.
UFC 163 takes place from Rio de Janeiro on August 3, headlined by the Featherweight Championship fight between Jose Aldo and "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung.
