UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione was suspended briefly earlier this year for a hate-filled tirade against transgender fighter Fallon Fox, only to be reinstated shortly thereafter and booked against Brendan Schaub at UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle. Now, that fight is no longer taking place as scheduled.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com, Mitrione has suffered a minor injury in training, but it's enough to take him out of the July 27 event.
Prior to the ill-advised tirade, Mitrione had gotten himself back in the win column in April. Following consecutive losses to Cheick Kongo and Roy Nelson, Mitrione knocked out Phil De Fries in just 19 seconds at UFC on Fuel 9 in Sweden.
Given the injury isn't expected to keep Mitrione out long, the UFC is planning on re-booking the fight with Schaub, taking the Ultimate Fighter 10 runner-up off the Seattle card as well. Schaub also halted a two-fight losing streak of his own in his last fight, defeating Lavar Johnson by decision at UFC 157.
UFC on Fox 8 takes place from the KeyArena in Seattle, Wash. on July 27, headlined by the Flyweight Championship bout between Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga.
