Heavyweight Dave Herman will return to action this July, fresh off a 30-day stint in rehab after his second failed drug test for marijuana in the UFC last year. Despite losses in three straight fights in the UFC on top of those drug test failures, he'll get another fight in the Octagon.
The UFC announced on Thursday that Herman will take on Shane Del Rosario at UFC 162 on July 6, and it's a must-win fight for both competitors.
Herman entered the UFC in 2011 with a win over Jon Olav Einemo, but he was then stopped by both Stefan Struve and Roy Nelson by strikes in consecutive fights. After those losses, he was submitted by Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last October at UFC 153. He tested positive for marijuana out of that fight, a bout he took on very short notice when the UFC 153 card lost several fights to injury.
Del Rosario is another fighter who is in desperate need of a win, having lost in both of his appearances in the UFC thus far. After a layoff of 15 months following a car accident, Del Rosario brought a perfect record into his UFC debut. However, he was taken out by Stipe Miocic by TKO, an followed that up with a brutal TKO loss to Pat Barry in December.
UFC 162 will air live on pay-per-view from Las Vegas, headlined by a Middleweight Championship bout between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman.
