"I just go in and do my job the best I can and take care of my family. That's how I see it. I don't think I have a passion for [training]. I have been taking it easy in the past. But for the last fight (a submission win over Mike Kyle in Strikeforce), I trained very well for it, and I think the result was there. I have been training (all along). But I think the quality of the training and people pushing me, stuff like that, I have lacked in the past...
I see a lot of people training at famous gyms, but that doesn't mean they're winning their fights. You can do it wherever you are. I don't think you have to be training with the very best fighter to win your fight. You can train in Siberia and you can do it. It's a fight. You can get caught with a punch. (That) doesn't mean your training was bad. Or you get caught in a submission. Anything can happen.
I don't have any emotions (on fight night). I'm not angry. I'm not happy. It's just fighting... Let's see how this fight goes, and let's see how people react after this"
-The always enigmatic Gegard Mousasi talks to MMAJunkie.com about his outlook on fighting.
Penick's Analysis: Mousasi's an interesting character, for sure, and his nonchalant demeanor comes off as someone who just couldn't care less about what he's doing in that cage. Of course, as he added in the piece, he doesn't particularly care what fans think about him or his demeanor. The simple fact of the matter is that he's an extremely talented fighter. Whether he applies himself fully to be the best fighter he can be remains to be seen. But he's going to do what he can in his UFC debut (whether it actually comes this weekend or not), and then he'll move forward from there, one step at a time.
