"It's a question for the athletic commissions. The athletic commissions, I don't know how they would rule on that. That's a really tough one, and that's in the hands of the commission, not me. Here's the other thing. All this other hype about Fallon Fox fighting in the UFC or whatever, understand this first and foremost: Everyone that Fallon Fox has fought has a losing record. So before you even think about fighting in the UFC or whatever – he was a man and now he's a woman – he's fighting girls who have losing records. Before you get too crazy about him being in the UFC, he's so freaking far from being in the UFC that it's not even funny."
-UFC President Dana White comments on the topic of transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox during an interview with the Abe Kanan Show on SiriusXM (transcribed by MMAJunkie.com).
Penick's Analysis: Whatever else there may be to argue about Fallon Fox fighting professionally, there is one thing that should be made completely clear: Fallon Fox is a woman. Fallon Fox is no longer a man. Referring to Fox as "he" or "him" is entirely disrespectful and ignorant. There can be a serious discussion about the science behind gender transition, and about the standards that should be acceptable in this situation, but that's not what's been happening. Instead, we get knee-jerk reactions from the meathead "it's a man beating up women" crowd, and White joins the fray. That's not surprising, of course, but it is disappointing. Regardless of any of your other reservations on this matter, Fallon Fox is a woman, end of discussion. She's gone through ten years of hormonal therapy, she's gone through the requisite transition, she's a woman. To continue to refer to her otherwise is to be wrong, and hopefully she can get the serious discussion on the relevant matter in the near-future that she deserves.
