"My perspective and my goals are kind of the same from the last fight. I need to provide for my family. I need to take care of them. I think I've become more focused, and focusing on a single opponent, and the single fight in front of me, instead of worrying too much about what's going on outside of that fight... Especially for those couple of years, I think I was distracted by what was going on outside of my fight, instead of focusing on that one single fight... I kind of caught my second breath, and I've learned a lot over the years and I know what I need to do, and what needed to be done to win these fights. What needed to be done to win these fights in the manner that I know I can."
-Jon Fitch talks to MMAWeekly.com about avoiding distractions into his UFC 156 matchup against Demian Maia.
Penick's Analysis: Whatever Fitch changed in his approach before the fight with Erick Silva was positive, and if it's something that will continue to make him effective consistently, then it's an intelligent change. If he can get past Maia in similar fashion to the Silva fight, he'll do a great deal towards getting himself another fight for the UFC Welterweight Championship. He's got a ways to go, but there is definitely a possibility for him to get back into contention if he can pull off more performances like what was seen at UFC 153.
