Justin Edwards has suffered an injury, taking him out of a bout against Gunnar Nelson next month at UFC on Fuel 7. That injury has opened the door for the UFC return of Jorge Santiago, who had been released from the UFC after two return fights in 2011.
Santiago's last UFC return came after an 11-1 mark outside of the organization. Unfortunately, he lost to Brian Stann and Demian Maia in back to back fights, leading to an unceremonious release. He dropped to the welterweight division after that release, and has won two straight fights heading into this return.
Nelson made his UFC debut in September, submitting DaMarques Johnson at UFC on Fuel 5 in Nottingham, England. That win moved the 24-year-old's undefeated record to 10-0-1, and this is an opportunity for him to defeat a respected longtime veteran.
UFC on Fuel 7 takes place on February 16 in London, headlined by the Interim Bantamweight Championship between Renan Barao and Michael McDonald.
