Rory MacDonald will get his wish, as Carlos Condit has stepped up to his challenge for a rematch, and the UFC is targeting the bout for March 16 in Montreal.
According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, that card is expected to be UFC 158, and will bring the UFC back to the Bell Centre for the second time in four months.
It's a quick turnaround for both fighters, who each competed within the last few weeks. Condit fell short in his bid to become the Undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion, dropping a decision to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 154 last month. MacDonald comes into the rematch off a vicious and one-sided beating of B.J. Penn this past weekend at UFC on Fox 5 for his fourth straight win.
MacDonald then called out Condit for this rematch, hoping to avenge the only loss of his 15-fight career. Condit stopped MacDonald with just seven seconds left in the third round of that bout in 2010, and MacDonald has wanted a second shot at him since. He'll now get that fight come March.
Penick's Analysis: That was quick. It's a fast turnaround for each of them, but it's a very good fight. Condit will head right back to Montreal after putting forth a good effort against St-Pierre, and he'll hope to avoid two-straight losses to Tri-Star. But given his win the first time around, he'll surely be confident he can do it once again. MacDonald believes he's come a long way since that loss, though, and he'll have something to say about it come March 16.
