Rory MacDonald fights B.J. Penn next Saturday night at UFC on Fox 5 in Seattle, but he already has an idea of at least one possible opponent for his next fight. In an interview with MMAWeekly.com, the 23-year-old commented on a potential fight against a returning Nick Diaz.
"I would fight him," MacDonald said flatly. "[He comes back] in February, and I might be ready to fight in like March or something like that. He might be my next fight after B.J., you never know how it works."
"We'll see, I'd love to fight him."
It may not be the first option for Diaz upon his return from suspension, but it's another name in the mix that could make sense in 2013.
Penick's Analysis: That's a fight that could very well happen in 2013 or 2014, and it will be a good one if it comes to fruition. MacDonald's got to get past Penn first, and he won't be the first candidate the UFC looks at for Diaz, but if something else doesn't come together, MacDonald's a better option than most. That especially the case if he gets past Penn and doesn't suffer any injuries. In that event, Diaz-MacDonald could be a lot of fun.
