Gegard Mousasi is expected to face off against Mike Kyle on Strikeforce's January 12 event, but he's got his sights set a little further than that. With the January 12 card expected to be Strikeforce's final event, Mousasi wants to head to the UFC, and he's got an opponent in mind: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
"That would be a good fight," Mousasi said in an interview with FCFighter.com. "That would be an exciting fight. He's the kind of guy who likes to fight. I like to fight guys like him who come to fight instead of fight(ing) to win. I am 100 percent positive about my abilities to beat anybody. I don't doubt myself I just have to have my priorities right. I know I can beat anybody."
He's got to get past Kyle first, but he'll likely be a solid addition to the UFC's light heavyweight roster once Strikeforce folds and he heads to the Octagon.
Penick's Analysis: I don't know whether or not a fight with Rua is feasible as he heads to the UFC, but it could come eventually. It's a fight that definitely would be interesting, and the UFC would be able to sell it, but Mousasi might need to get a win in the UFC before they book him against a former champion.
