The UFC has had abysmal luck when it comes to injuries this year, and they were nearly dealt another massive blow over the weekend. According to a report from Brazil's Tatame.com.br, Aldo was riding his motorcycle on Saturday when he was struck by a car.
Thankfully, he didn't suffer any major injuries, and is expected to be fine for his scheduled UFC 153 bout with Frankie Edgar this October, but it certainly gave his team a scare. According to his coach, Nova Uniao's Andre Pederneiras, Aldo received nothing more severe than a swollen foot and some scratches.
"The only concern is that his foot was swollen, but there was no fracture," Pederneiras said. "He will be resting this week and the next back to train. He also suffered some scratches on the knee, leg and butt, but we believe there will not be any problem."
Pederneiras added that they will no longer allow Aldo to ride his motorcycle in the future to avoid a future incident.
Penick's Analysis: Aldo and the UFC caught a break here by having nothing more serious than some scratches and a swollen foot. Motorcycle riding is frowned upon by athletic organizations and ownership groups because of this very reason, as it's an inherently more unsafe mode of travel, and Aldo should heed his coach's words for now and avoid riding for the time being. Hopefully nothing gets complicated further from these minor injuries, as the excitement for his fight with Frankie Edgar has only just begun.
