A very exciting featherweight matchup is headed to UFC 152 in Toronto, adding to an already stacked card for the UFC's return to the Canadian city.
According to a report from MMAFighting.com, Charles Oliveira will take on Cub Swanson on the September 22 event.
Oliveira has been sensational at 145 lbs. thus far, posting two straight submission wins over Eric Wisely and Jonathan Brookins. After a rough stretch in the lightweight division, he looks very dangerous at his new weight class.
That's what makes Swanson a particularly exciting opponent. The longtime featherweight veteran has had his share of ups and downs in the sport, but he's come on strong recently. Though some mental mistakes led to a submission loss to Ricardo Lamas in his UFC debut, Swanson has since rebounded with consecutive knockout wins over George Roop and Ross Pearson.
UFC 152 will be headlined by the UFC's first ever Flyweight Championship bout between Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson.
Penick's Analysis: This is a fantastic fight. Oliveira looks like a legitimate threat in the featherweight division, but we still have to see him progress against better and better competition. Swanson wants to make his own run, so he needs to prove he can win under pressure and against very tough competition himself. This is an important fight at 145 lbs., and the fans in Toronto are lucky it's taking place in front of them.
