The UFC's most recent event in Brazil was essentially an Ultimate Fighter Finale event disguised as a pay-per-view card. Their return this October to Rio de Janeiro will be a completely different story.
An already stacked card just got another solid addition on Tuesday, as welterweights Rick Story and Demian Maia will square off on the card.
News of the bout comes from Story himself, who revealed the matchup for UFC 153 on Twitter.
34-year-old Maia, a one time title challenger in the middleweight division, made his welterweight debut just earlier this month at UFC 148, though it was over before it really got started. Maia looked good in the early going against Dong Hyun Kim, but the fight ended abruptly when Kim suffered severe muscle spasms right before being taken down, and Maia was awarded a TKO win as Kim couldn't continue.
Story had won six straight fights in the UFC heading into June of last year. Then, he took a short notice bout with Nate Marquardt as an injury replacement, only to have Marquardt be removed the day before the bout. Story was then upset by Marquardt's replacement, Charlie Brenneman, before subsequently losing to Martin Kampmann his next time out. He's since snapped that two-fight skid, defeating Brock Jardine by decision at UFC on FX 4 in June.
UFC 153 takes place from Rio on October 13, headlined by a Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Erik Koch.
