There were precious few finishes on the UFC 148 card on Saturday night, so the UFC only handed out bonuses to three fighters for their performances on the card in Las Vegas. And unlike many events, the rich got richer on Saturday, as all of the $75,000 bonuses went to competitors in the co-main and main events.
Not surprisingly, the UFC opted to give "Fight of the Night" honors to Forrest Griffin and Tito Ortiz for their three round bout. The rest of the night was seriously devoid of entertaining fights, and with Ortiz on his way out of the sport in his retirement fight, he and Griffin put on a fairly fun fight. That was enough on the night to take the award and the bonus money.
"Knockout of the Night" went to UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, who stopped Chael Sonnen in the second round after a vicious knee to the body and strikes on the ground. He beat out Chad Mendes, who destroyed Cody McKenzie with a punch to the liver, stopping him in just 31 seconds.
With no submission stoppages on the card, there was obviously no "Submission of the Night" award given.
