UFC middleweight Michael Bisping underwent knee surgery a few weeks back, and on Tuesday night he gave an update on his recovery and when he'd return to action in an interview with Fuel TV's UFC Tonight program.
"Hopefully, pretty soon," Bisping said when asked when he'd return to action (transcribed by MMAWeekly.com. "The knee is healing nicely and it has been three weeks since the operation and I just started training. I just spoke to Joe Silva not too long ago and I am hoping to fight at UFC 152 in Toronto."
He's got a couple of names in mind for that return fight, but one in particular has him a bit perturbed.
"I would like to fight Brian Stann, he is a good fighter. A second one is Alan Belcher," Bisping said. "Alan Belcher’s somebody that's been calling me out for seems like forever now. To be quite frank I'm sick of it. So, Alan Belcher if your balls are big enough call Joe Silva and let's do it."
Penick's Analysis: Bisping-Belcher would be a great fight in the middleweight division. If Belcher can return by the end of September it would be the right fight to make right now. Stann's coming off a great win over Alessio Sakara, and he's one fight removed from the loss to Chael Sonnen, so it could also make sense to pit him against Bisping, but I like the though of Belcher-Bisping right now. Bisping believes himself to be one of the top fighters in the world at middleweight, and Belcher wants to break into the top end of the division himself. This would be a fight that would allow for both to stake their claim for a spot in the top end.
