The first ever international season of The Ultimate Fighter came to a close on Saturday night, with winners being crowned in the featherweight and middleweight divisions from the first edition of "TUF: Brazil."
However, the show closed out with a bit of a whimper, with both finals bouts coming in as poorer fights than what their castmembers brought forth during the FX preliminary card for UFC 147. At the end of the night, it was Rony Jason and Cezar Ferreira walking away with the title of "Ultimate Fighter," along with a six-figure contract with the UFC.
Jason took a decision over Godofredo Pepey in a positively strange fight. Jason's striking wasn't immensely active, but he did more through three rounds than did Pepey. Additionally, Pepey attempted to pull guard numerous times despite not doing anything on the ground, and he also added several fouls during the fight that drew warnings, though no point deductions. Ultimately, Pepey didn't do nearly enough to avoid losing a decision to an emotional Jason.
Ferreira had a tougher time with replacement Sergio Moraes, who surprised him on the feet during numerous spots, giving him pause and changing the tide of the fight in moments. It wasn't enough, however, and Ferreira's superior striking game was enough for him to take the decision in the fight, along with the title of "Ultimate Fighter."
