It has not been a good day for the UFC 149 card. After news of Thiago Silva's injury earlier today, another Thiago has been forced out of the event.
According to a report from MMAWeekly.com, Thiago Alves has suffered an injury, taking him out of a bout with Siyar Bahadurzada on the July 21 event. Bahadurzada was himself an injury replacement, stepping in to the fight against Alves when Yoshihiro Akiyama pulled out of the card.
The UFC is searching for a replacement opponent for Bahadurzada on the card.
Alves was hoping to bounce back from a loss to Martin Kampmann in March, and now he'll be sidelined for an unknown length of time.
Penick's Analysis: That's a more disappointing blow to this card than losing Silva from the Shogun fight. That fight never made a ton of sense, whereas this one was almost guaranteed to be an immensely entertaining fight. Bahadurzada will hopefully get another decent name as an opponent for this event, but it's definitely a blow to this event in Calgary.
