With the UFC likely moving Jose Aldo's return Title defense up a month to UFC 147 in Brazil, the UFC 149 event in Calgary no longer has its headliner. However, they could be getting a major fight, as UFC President Dana White revealed during Tuesday's press conference in Brazil that the July 21 event in Calgary could receive the next UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout.
Indeed, the UFC hopes to book Jon Jones vs. Dan Henderson on that card, making for a quick turnaround for Jones, who just defended the belt for a third time at UFC 145 last weekend.
However, White did say that it was dependent on Jones and whether he feels he can make that quick of a turnaround. According to White, Jones is still a bit sore from his win over Rashad Evans, and if he's not prepared for that quick of a turnaround, the bout will take place at a later date.
Penick's Analysis: This makes a lot of sense as the replacement headliner, and actually it gives the UFC and Calgary a bigger headliner for this card than Aldo would have been. Jones has had some really quick turnarounds between fights, so it just depends on if he's ready and willing to get right back into training for Henderson. The challenger is quite ready, as he's been simply waiting for his official shot, and now he'll be ready to go whenever the UFC can book this fight.
