Melvin Guillard will attempt to halt a two fight losing streak this summer, as MMAWeekly.com reports that he'll take on Fabricio Camoes at UFC 148.

Guillard had been turning fans and pundits into believers over the last few years, showing off a maturity he had lacked early in his career while racking up a five fight winning streak. That run was set to continue when he was heavily favored over Joe Lauzon last October, but instead Guillard was shockingly knocked down and choked out in the first round.

Despite that loss, he was given a main event bout with Jim Miller in January with a chance to jump back into the title picture. However, once again, his past issues with submission defense came to the forefront, and he was submitted for the ninth time in his career.

Camoes' first stint in the UFC didn't go very well, as he went to a draw with Caol Uno and suffered a loss to Kurt Pellegrino in two appearances. He won two straight fights outside of the organization in 2011, and got a call back to the organization. In his return, which incidentally came on the January FX card headlined by Guillard vs. Miller, Camoes defeated UFC newcomer Tommy Hayden by submission.

UFC 148 heads to pay-per-view on July 7, and is expected to be headlined by the Bantamweight Championship bout between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber.

Penick's Analysis: Guillard has dropped considerably down the ladder with his two straight losses, but he remains an exciting lightweight that still has some good will with the organization. If he can put together another run he can move himself close to contention, but unless he finds a way to avoid the same mistakes he's made numerous times in the past he's going to have a very real ceiling in the UFC. That said, this is a solid lightweight fight for this card, even if it's a much lower name for Guillard after his recent run.
