Though Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker was adamant this summer that former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion and longtime kickboxer Cung Le would not be moving over to the UFC, that may not be the case.
In a post on his personal website, UFC middleweight Vitor Belfort says that he'll be meeting Le at UFC 139 in San Jose, the exact event Le had stated in interviews he'd like to fight on.
The fight would be Belfort's third of 2011. After sitting out the entirety of 2010 due to a series of injuries, Belfort took on Anderson Silva in February for the UFC Middleweight Title. He was taken out by Silva's now famous front kick, but he rebounded well in August, knocking out Yoshihiro Akiyama in quick fashion.
Le hasn't fought since his win over Scott Smith last June in their rematch in Strikeforce. The undefeated kickboxer began his MMA career with a 6-0 record, but a budding acting career kept him out of the cage for an extended period of time, and has seen him not as active as his fans would like to see.
The fight comes to this event in Strikeforce's former home base at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. on November 19. The event does not yet have a headlining fight.
Penick's Analysis: If this is a legitimate post from Belfort, this is a fantastic middleweight fight. Le's kickboxing is so much fun to watch, and Belfort can simply be brutal with his striking game. This is a fight primed to be completely full of action, and if it's actually coming to this card it's a great move on the UFC's part.
