Tickets for next month's UFC 137 event in Las Vegas have sold out, just hours after going on sale to the public on Friday.
The event, which was still set to be headlined by a Welterweight Title bout between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz when UFC Fight Club members had their presale on Wednesday, has since undergone a change. With St-Pierre now fighting Carlos Condit and Diaz now facing B.J. Penn, the card still has two strong welterweight fights, and the event still sold out.
"It's been a crazy few days here at UFC, but there's no doubt that UFC 137 is going to be an incredible card," UFC President Dana White said in a release from the organization. "GSP is on his way to becoming the best welterweight of all-time, but Condit wants that belt. He's knocked out his last three opponents and couldn't be more fired up for this fight. Plus, we've got B.J. Penn taking on Nick Diaz in what could be one of the most intense fights of the year."
The card takes place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center on October 29, airing live on pay-per-view.
Penick's Analysis: Much of this sellout is very likely from the first presale prior to the change in the main event, as oftentimes UFC Fight Club members pick up tickets first to sell them later. Whether they're able to recoup their money in scalping them or not remains to be seen, but demand for these tickets even though it's currently sold out may not be high enough for them to get their money back with floor seats going for $1000. Still, it's another sellout for a Georges St-Pierre fight, and it means big money for the UFC whether the seats area actually filled or not.
