For the third time in his last six fights, Paul Daley has failed to make weight.
Daley weighed in for his BAMMA 5 bout with Yuya Shirai at two pounds over the 170 lb. limit. After being given two hours to cut the additional weight, but still came in 400 grams over the limit. As a result, what was supposed to be a title fight is now a three round bout, and Daley has forfeited a percentage of his purse.
In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, Daley's manager Wad Alameddine stated they had issues related to the venue and Daley's attempts to shed the weight.
"We had a few issues," Alameddine said. "The place where the weigh-in was happening, there was no sauna to use, so we had to travel like half an hour to get to a sauna."
Daley missed weight in his UFC debut, coming two pounds over the limit for his bout with Dustin Hazelett, and then again in September for Shark Fights, where he came in over weight for a bout with Jorge Masvidal.
Daley will go ahead with the Shirai fight tomorrow in the U.K., and a win could earn him a title shot against Nick Diaz in Strikeforce.
Penick's Analysis: Well, regardless of issues, this is becoming a pattern for Daley that he needs to get past. Missing weight on a regular basis is not a good thing, especially when he's not a really large welterweight. He needs to win this fight, for him and for Strikeforce, but making weight was supposed to be the first step in that, and hopefully for him it doesn't lead to hesitance on Strikeforce's part in booking him in a title fight.
