Saturday's World Series of Fighting 2 event may be in danger of cancellation, as Brent Brookhouse of BloodyElbow.com reported overnight that the organization's cage has not been approved by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board.
Per the report, there are issues with the corner pads and the canvas for the cage which have the entire production in jeopardy. They were planning on flying in a canvas overnight from Las Vegas, but if it doesn't fit the cage, the event could be cancelled.
"The cage still needs to gain approval, has not yet," said NJSACB's Nick Lembo late Friday night. "New canvas to be flown in, and new post pads. Will check out tomorrow. Cage must still be inspected and gain approval after noted deficiencies are addressed."
For their part WSOF officials are downplaying any issues, but there is still the potential that things may not go according to plan come Saturday night.
Penick's Analysis: If the WSOF is forced to cancel just their second event, and just the first in a new deal with the NBC Sports Network, it almost certainly means the end of the promotion before they get started. Having this event canceled the day of will leave NBC Sports Net with no live television programming as had been planned, and could be a breach that negates whatever deal they've put together with the network. Considering all fighters have made weight for the card, hopefully the issue is resolved quickly on Saturday.
