Bellator featherweight contender Daniel Straus was arrested on Friday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on four traffic and drug charges, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com.
The 28-year-old featherweight - who was scheduled to fight Pat Curran on April 4 at Bellator 95 until a broken hand forced him out of the fight - was charged with driving on a suspended license, possession of cannabis of more than 20 grams, possession of MDMA/ecstasy, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
Straus had been in Florida training with Coconut Creek's American Top Team, and he is currently being held in the North Broward Bureau detention facility in Pompano Beach. He's being held on $2,200 bond for the four charges.
Penick's Analysis: This is disappointing, of course, but as we're seeing more and more often, marijuana use among fighters is far from an uncommon thing. Now, the MDMA in his possession is a different story, and driving around on a suspended license isn't a good idea either, and the charges definitely have Straus in some trouble right now. This is the type of thing which could affect his employment with Bellator, though that remains to be seen.
