Strikeforce jumped the gun a bit on Monday, announcing a fight between Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Ovince St. Preux for the June 18 event in Dallas when the bout, in fact, is not happening.
Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz confirmed that the bout is not taking place to multiple outlets, and Lawal is expected to fight in July on a Strikeforce pay-per-view event, as MMAWeekly.com reported last week.
The June 18 event comes to the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and features the next two quarterfinal bouts in the Strikeforce Heavyweight World Grand Prix in Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers. It also features the return of Gina Carano and two more heavyweight fights.
Penick's Analysis: It looks like they simply forgot to change their poster when they sent out their Insider Newsletter on Monday, which had the bout listed on there. It's a fight that would have made sense for the card were they not putting more heavyweight fights on there, but it had already been reported that Lawal was being removed from the June 18 card. This fight would work in July if they still want to go with it, though it may be Lawal against Roger Gracie instead.
