British welterweight Paul Daley will be next in line for Strikeforce's Welterweight Title, according to Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker, but first he'll be taking a fight in his home country.
According to a report from MMAWeekly.com, Daley has been given permission to take a headlining fight on an upcoming show for the British promotion BAMMA. Strikeforce has to give approval on Daley's opponent as well, and that part of the equation has not yet been set. But once that fight's over with, Daley will be in line to fight the winner of this month's Nick Diaz vs. Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos bout on Showtime.
"Paul has requested to have a fight in the UK, and our deal with Paul we have to sign off on it, and we have to have an opponent approval," Coker said. "There’s a couple names and we’re going through that process with him. He wants to stay busy and he wants to fight the winner of [Nick] Diaz and Evangelista [Cyborg], and I think that makes a lot of sense."
Penick's Analysis: This makes sense for Daley, as it keeps him busy and allows him to return to Strikeforce for a title fight his next time out. He's really the only true remaining challenger at this point for Diaz in Strikeforce's welterweight division, so if Diaz defeats "Cyborg" on January 29, that's the logical next bout to make. It will make for a good title fight as well, and should be a very entertaining fight between the two when it eventually does happen. For now, British fans get their hometown fighter back for a one off event before he heads back across the pond.
