UFC reports this afternoon that Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has suffered a ruptured ACL in his left knee, the same injury he had surgery on to repair after his OctoberUFC 76 fight with Forrest Griffin.
UFC is not estimating his return date. He was scheduled to face Chuck Liddell.
A replacement opponent for Liddell will be announced soon. His replacement opponent will have a full three months to train for the fight.

KELLER ANALYSIS: Obviously a disappointing turn of events. A Rua spokesman said he was more motivated than he's been in years to take on Liddell and redeem himself after his loss to Forrest Griffin last fall. Visit the MMATorch Forum to discuss this situation with MMATorch staff and other readers, including suggestions on his replacement opponent for the fight. The bright side is the injury came three months, not three weeks, before the fight, giving adequate time for a suitable replacement opponent to train for the fight.
