Jacare Souza made quick work of Tim Boetsch, defeating him in the first round via a kimura submission.

Speaking with the press after the fight, Souza said he refuses to wait around for a title shot and welcomes another fight in the interim. “I want to fight the champion,” Souza said through a translator. “But if I have to wait too long, I’d rather take another fight because I wasn’t born to wait for others. I was born to make things happen.”

When asked about the prospect of a rematch with Yoel Romero, Souza said he would happily oblige. “It certainly would be an option,” Souza said. “It’s a fight that I want. I never lost a rematch, and with Romero it won’t be different. I will prove that I didn’t lose that fight to him, and that I lost it to the judges.”

Souza improved to 24-4 and is currently ranked third in the UFC Middleweight Division.

Cervantes Analysis: Souza has been a deserving contender for years so I hope that after Michael Bisping fights Romero, the UFC will give Souza the next shot. I respect Souza for wanting to take more fights and not sit around, but he runs the risk of losing and then having to wait even longer for a title shot. He’ll also clear out the division if he decides to take more fights, meaning there will be fewer viable contenders down the road. Hopefully the UFC relents and finally grants him what he has earned.
