Rory MacDonald recently signed a huge new deal with Bellator MMA, but he continues to make headlines by blasting his former employer and now a former opponent.

MacDonald says that he had heard from a reliable source that former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler’s testosterone levels came in four times above the limit on a test taken in the lead up to their UFC 189 bout, which Lawler won by fifth round TKO.

“It could be bulls**t, which is why we have to do our research, but look at their team history,” MacDonald told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour Live. “It’s very suspicious.” When asked if it was a good source, MacDonald simply answered “Yeah.”

The team in question is American Top Team, which has had high profile drug test failures from fighters such as Hector Lombard, Thiago Alves, and recently Melvin Guillard. Lawler was tested again after the fight and his tests came back clean for PED’s, as well as all of his tests leading up to the fight and on fight night except for the test in question. However, as the person who came so close to winning the UFC Welterweight Title that night, it is understandable that MacDonald will want to do some digging of his own.

Dodds’ Analysis: If it comes out that Robbie Lawler was doping in that fight he came so close to losing, and has fought twice since then, once defending the belt in another razor thin decision against Carlos Condit that many thought he lost, and then losing it to Tyron Woodley, the UFC will be in some major hot water. All of the indications and post-fight testing indicate that it was jut an abnormal test result, but you can bet that MacDonald and the Tristar Camp will be doing their own looking into this, and there is a chance that this story is far from over.
