Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos is on the mend after undergoing a successful surgical procedure this week to fix the skull fracture he suffered against Michael Page at Bellator 158.

In an interview with Guilherme Cruz at MMAFighting.com, Santos expressed optimism for his recovery time and the future after a lengthy procedure.

“I had surgery yesterday, and thank God everything went fine,” Santos said. “It lasted seven hours, and the hospital will give Bellator a full report later today. God guided the doctors in this surgery so everything went well.

“They didn’t tell me anything about timetable for recovery yet. I’ll be released from hospital today, and then they will tell me how long it will take. But it will be fast. I’ll be back soon.”

Penick’s Analysis: It’s good that he’s remained in good spirits throughout the process. That was a nasty flying knee from Page, and that injury is as scary looking as any we’ve seen in the sport. Glad to hear surgery went well, and though it’s hard to believe he’s going to recover in time to be back this year it’s what he’s seemingly targeting.
