Luke Rockhold says knee injury has worsened since UFC 199 loss, hopes to return to training in 3-4 weeks

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Luke Rockhold entered UFC 199 with a knee injury believing that he’d be able to beat late replacement Michael Bisping despite it, but since that upset loss in June the knee has only gotten worse.

In a post to Instagram, Rockhold updated his status and revealed that he underwent a stem cell treatment to try healing the injury without surgery.

Penick’s Analysis: This in some ways makes it all the more likely that he and Chris Weidman rematch in November at UFC 205 in New York, provided each of them can actually make it to the cage on that date. Weidman’s neck injury isn’t something to rush back from, but he desperately wants on that card, and if Rockhold can get himself cleared by the end of the summer that date would be attainable. For now, both need to focus on recovery to make that even remotely a possibility.
